Slow Cooker
Pareve Cholent
A traditional Jewish Sabbath stew made meatless for a pareve version. Filled with beans, potatoes, barley, and spices, it's slow-cooked overnight into a deeply satisfying and flavorful one-pot meal.
Ingredients:
- 1 cup dry kidney beans 1/2 cup dry white beans 1/2 cup barley
- 2 large potatoes, peeled and cubed
- 1 large sweet potato, peeled and cubed
- 1 large onion, cut into chunks
- 2 cloves garlic, minced 2/3 cup ketchup
- 1/4 cup barbeque sauce 1/4 cup soy sauce
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 2 teaspoons garlic powder 2 teaspoons onion powder 2 teaspoons paprika
- 2 teaspoons ground black pepper 1 tablespoon salt
- 4 cups water, or more as needed to cover
